RESIF will closely collaborate with the existing and future educational productions of the 'Sismos à l'Ecole' piloté par le dispositif national 'Sciences à l'Ecole' network for teachers and students. This networkis supported by research institutions and a network of high school teachers, comprises educational seismological stations, educational software, seismo-kits and other tools. RESIF, thanks to its federating structure, will add to the current project in the field, by making station data available to schools and educational institutions in mainland France.
The 'Sismos à l'Ecole' project consists in developing a network of teaching institutions equipped with 3-component educational seismometers. The students aged between 13 and 18 (high school and higher education) participate in installing the seismic sensor in their school or institute. The seismic records will feed an online database, a real seismological resource centre, and serve as a starting point for educational and scientific activities using new information and communication technologies. In view of the project’s orientations (favouring new communication technologies), its educational dimension (seismic risk awareness), its scientific content (instrumentation, geophysics, earth sciences), and its importance on a regional, even national, level (networking of educational establishments), a number of areas can be developed by teaching staff.
