The Institut national des sciences de l’Univers of the CNRS has published an analysis of the cause of the earthquakes in Turkey by members of the Résif-Epos community.

On 6 February 2023, two devastating earthquakes struck Turkey and Syria. With more than 50,000 victims and thousands of buildings destroyed, these earthquakes were among the deadliest of the 21st century. The risk, although well known to scientists, was underestimated. What do we know about the region? What happened underground? What accounts for the scale of the damage? What can we expect in the future?
