The French seismological and geodetic network (Résif) was awarded recognition in the second wave of EQUIPEX calls for proposal (equipment for excellence). Financial support (9.3M€) was awarded by the Investments for the Future, managed by the French National Agency for Research (ANR).
This new financial backing will allow us to :
- Develop a dense network of broad-band seismometers in continental France, completed by mobile equipment aiming to study changes in seismic activity, structures of the deeper earth and the lithosphere ;
- Reinforce the network of GPS receptors measuring deformations of the Earth’s crust on French territory and integrate these results with seismic measurements ;
- Acquire new permanent and mobile gravimeters to understand deformation of the lithosphere ;
- Construct a semi-distributed equipment to improve the management, distribution and archiving of the data produced.
Résif is expected to be a major French contribution to the European Plate Observing System – EPOS
