The mission of the MIG (Macroseismic Response Group) is to establish macro-seismic intensities (severity of ground shaking) within a short time after the occurrence of an earthquake. Several MIGs dedicated to specific geographical areas exist, including the MIG-Caribbean for Guadeloupe and Martinique.
Three new training courses are planned by the MIG. They are intended for people working in the framework of the Caribbean Macroseismic Response Group led by the BCSF.
The first Macro-seismic field expertise and post-earthquake intensity estimation (Level I) will be held from 21 to 22 November 2019 at the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Guadeloupe.
The aim of the course is to enable participants to understand and assimilate the concepts of the European macro-seismic scale (EMS-98), for the estimation of macro-seismic intensity in the field following the occurrence of an earthquake. They will be able to implement appropriate investigation techniques and procedures, and ensure their safety and that of the group during field missions by using dedicated procedures.
Two other training courses are being held from 21 to 22 November 2019 in Guadeloupe at the OVSG (level 1 macro-seismic training) as part of the seismic week and from 9 to 13 December 2019 in Mayotte (level 1 macro-seismic mission) to reassess the damage caused by the seismic swarm on buildings by comparing the results obtained in June 2018.

A level 1 macro-seismic training has already taken place from October 8 to 10 as part of the POCRISC project (for a common culture of seismic risk). You can read the Eost article (in French) that develops this project and the training that took place.
