The best of the Rencontres Montagnes & Sciences will take place on 27 May 2019 at the Forum des images in Paris.It is co-organized by the University Grenoble Alpes and the CNRS, as part of the organization’s 80th anniversary events. On the programme, screenings of scientific adventure films in the mountains, meetings with researchers and filmmakers, demonstrations and animations on stage.
The programming, adapted to all levels, is designed in collaboration with teachers, thus allowing a good integration into the school curricula.

Did you know that glaciers rustle ? To improve the diagnosis of glaciers under global warming, a team of scientists is developing a string of vibration sensors on their surface. As they would do with stethoscopes, they hope to capture the sound of the beating and the flow of water, which are evidence of the deep behaviour of the ice. No movement of the Argentière glacier should escape them.

The Rencontres Montagnes et Sciences were initiated in 2014 and coordinated by Eric Larose, CNRS researcher at the Institute of Earth Sciences (ISTerre) and Maurine Montagnat, CNRS researcher at the Institute of Geosciences and the Environment (IGE, formerly the Laboratory of Glaciology and Environmental Geophysics – LGGE). Since 2015, these meetings have been coordinated under the banner of the Association Montagnes et Sciences, an association under the law of 1901.
