The newspaper Le Monde, in its September 19, 2020 edition, published an article entitled “The Teil earthquake revives the debate on the nature of seismic activity in France”. In this interview with Jean-François Ritz, paleoseismologist and active member of Résif, the national daily newspaper focuses on the research conducted by scientists following this exceptional earthquake.

The interview evokes the characteristics and origin of the earthquake, as well as the questions it raises, which are of great interest to the academic scientific community and the organizations directly concerned by the question of risk assessment: the Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety, the French Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission, EDF or the Bureau of Geological and Mining Research.

Jean-François Ritz recalls the contribution of Résif in the deployment of instruments in the field immediately after the earthquake, for the immediate availability of the data collected by these instruments and for the numerous studies carried out within Résif to improve knowledge of seismicity in France, particularly in the field of seismic hazard assessment (Action transverse sismicity).
